Nutrition before and during pregnancy: Alcohol

The use of alcohol in pregnancy is a very sensitive subject to broach. There is no clear amount or frequency of alcohol use that is deemed safe for use in pregnancy. It is recommended that you discuss this matter with your physician or healthcare professional.

For more information on the harmful effects of alcohol on pregnancy, please contact the Motherisk Program at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. The Alcohol and Substance Use Helpline (1-877-327-4636) provides information on the fetal effects of alcohol, nicotine and drugs of abuse such as marijuana, cocaine and ecstasy.
